Scaling-up and Scaling-out proven agricultural technologies
Agricultural technologies have the power to drive economic development and improve food and nutritional security around the world. Global food production will have to increase by up to 80% by 2050 to meet growing demand. Uganda’s National Development Plan II (NDPII) informed by the NDPI, Vision 2040, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focuses on strengthening Uganda’s competitiveness for sustainable wealth creation, employment and inclusive growth. It aims at the country attaining Middle Income Status with per capita income of $1,033 by 2020. Agriculture is one of the priorities that will lead Uganda to achieve middle income status. MUZARDI spearheaded a World Bank and Government of Uganda funded project to scale-up and scale-out 980 demonstrations of proven agricultural technologies in 21 districts of the Lake Victoria Crescent Agro-ecological Zone of Uganda. Over 40,000 small scale farmers have visited the demonstrations. The aim is to increase adoption of proven agricultural technologies and approaches to enhance the impact of rural development.
